Wednesday: Venice Mystery and Fairy Jewels

Hello hello!

I'm back to somewhat normal today, so we're back on track reviewing two games :D  First up is the Daily Deal as usual, so let's just jump right in.

Venice Mystery is a Mahjong (sp?) style game, where you clear the board of tiles to advance to the next level.  The more tiles you clear in a short time, the better bonuses you get.

The general story idea behind it is that you've discovered a letter from someone letting you know that Venice is slowly sinking.  It's up to you to find the Doomsday Machine that will put a stop to the flooding, but the ancient plans have been ignored for a long time.  Can YOU stop Venice from becoming an underwater city?

Gameplay is simple point-and-click, basically what you do is you activate a certain kind of tile from the selection at the bottom, and then clear those activated tiles from the play board itself until you find the keys that let you advance to the next one.  You can also pick up one of many power-ups that let you have a slight edge over the play field for a while.

All in all I really did like this game, the graphics are really nice and the soundtrack is well-fit and soothing to listen to.  The puzzle-y nature of the game definitely keeps me going but relaxed, so I'd put it up there with moderate casual in terms of the kind of involvement the game begets.  Definitely something I'm buying later, so I can play it when I'm done studying for my godawful exams!

Fairy Jewels is an adorable match-3 game, where you have to free all your fellow fairies from their bubble traps that the evil witch put them in.  It's a long journey, and you have to save a lot of fairies, but it just might be worth it in the end! ;)

Plot's fairly simple and unobtrusive; your fairy friends are trapped in bubbles and you need to launch shiny colourful jewels at them to break them free.  However, if you hit the scenery by accident, a small cluster of jewels appears, and you need to fire the same colour at that cluster to get it to disappear.  There's a bunch of little doohickies (it's a technical term!) that affect the level of the game, like rainbow orbs that cause a big part of the scenery to become the colour you fire at it, etc.

Overall I really enjoyed the game, the music and graphics are enjoyable, and the game is super relaxing to play.  It's definitely a light casual kind of game, and very easy to step away from if something pops up away from the computer.  This was one of the games I took advantage of the Spring Fever sale for :)
