Genre Rotation - Match 3, Sales and Dark Parables!

Heyooo!

Welcome to Saturday's Genre Rotation, this week focusing on Match-3 since I did hidden objects last week.  But before I get into things, big news!

Big Fish is having an AWESOME 2-for-1 Collector's Edition sale!  THAT'S RIGHT!  Buy one Collector's Edition, get the second one free, just use the coupon code BONUS at the checkout with 2 or more games.

Dark Parables: The Exiled Prince is the second game in the currently three-part Dark Parables series.  It follows the plot of Curse of the Briar Rose and precedes Rise of the Snow Queen.  It's an amazing series, and the fourth installment is apparently in production and I CANNOT WAIT OMG.

I think it's safe to assume that I already bought this game, which is funny 'cos it's on sale today xD.  But, regardless it's a fantastic game, and well worth the discounted price it's offered at today.  Get this one, and the first one and the third one! :D

Anyway, the story goes that the Chancellor's daughter has gone missing in the Black Forest in Germany.  Because of your wonderful work on the Briar Rose case, you've been recruited to solve this fairy tale mystery and save Marie from danger.  Navigate through forests and a big castle to find just what you need to get the job done!

Gameplay is fairly standard, static environment screens with puzzles, hidden object scenes and handy inventory items peppered throughout.  There's also Cursed Items, which are pieces of scenery that will change appearance every few moments; if you collect all of them you get a bonus!  The graphics are STUNNING, and I always find myself completely sucked in when I'm playing because I just plain want to find out what happens next.  The soundtrack and voice acting is awesome, and all around just a great game.

And now for the real subject of today's blog post.  I have such a hard time picking games at random, omg!  But I did finally settle on one and it gave me...mixed feelings.

A-B-O-O is a simple match-3 game, you clear tiles to pass each level and save the world.

The plot is simple; there's a cute and peaceful race of creatures who are living wonderfully and in harmony, but two evil birds are working on a big scheme to ruin everything, and you must save them. Unfortunately the text seems to have been translated from another language, and a small bit of it got lost.  There's also a couple typos, which make it amusing but frustrating because of the detraction from the game itself.

Graphics are mixed. The artwork is adorable but some of the integration with text is a bit patchwork.  Soundtrack is okay, and overall the game is nice, but not really anything other than light casual gaming experience.  I'd say it's only really worth it when it's on sale.

And that concludes our SUPER EARLY blogcast day!  Enjoy :)
